FORMER West Indies Cricket Captain Clive Lloyd has retained a battery of lawyers to represent him in the Commercial Court where building contractor Kallie Ramjohn is claiming $9.5M from him.
The team includes Senior Counsel Rex Mc Kay, his son, Mr. Maxwell McKay and other attorneys-at-law Mr. Neil Boston, Mr. Fitz Peters, Mrs. Abiola Wong-Inniss and Mrs. Bettina Glasford.
Ramjohn is being represented by attorney-at-law Mr. Jerome Khan.
The plaintiff is claiming the money for additional works he said he was instructed to do, by Lloyd’s power of attorney, Ronald Austin, exclusive of the contract he signed to build a two-storey residence at Lot 150 Crown Street, Queenstown, Georgetown.
Ramjohn said the contract was for $35M and the extra cost $10M, of which he is owed $9,566,798.
But Lloyd is denying the debt as Austin denied, in an affidavit, that he ordered anything additional and stated that the claim is speculative, frivolous, vexatious and an abuse of the Court process.
The case has been adjourned to June 10. (GEORGE BARCLAY)
