Brazilian Navy ships on friendship visit from today

THREE naval vessels will moor at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Coast Guard wharf today as the Brazilian Navy continues a Caribbean tour.

The Office of the Brazilian Defence, Naval and Army Attaché in the Brazilian Embassy here said the ships, ‘Bracui’, ‘Goiana’ and ‘Guanabara’ are involved in an operation called Caribbean Exercise or CARIBEX.

It said one of the objectives of the visit is to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the armed forces of Brazil and Guyana and it will end tomorrow, when two GDF officers, Lieutenant Andre Cush and able rating Kenroy will go with the Brazilians.

The Guyanese will be participating in instruction activities through to the ships’ final destination in Natal on June 9.

On leaving Guyana, their next stop will be in Port of Spain, Trinidad; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Havana, Cuba and La Guaira.
