GUYANA National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) yesterday reminded dealers in cellular phones and used tyres to ensure their businesses are registered with the agency for this year.
A press statement said GNBS recognised that a significant number of them are not on the 2009 register, in comparison to previous years, despite the mandatory requirement for annual registration before they can operate.
GNBS said those unregistered are required to comply by May 29 and warned that failure to do so would result in merchandise found at their outlets being placed on hold by inspectors.
The statement said GNBS would publish the defaulters names to guide consumers accordingly.
Meanwhile, those registered are encouraged to post their registration certificates on their premises, to provide guidance to purchasing consumers.
The statement advised consumers to make purchases only from registered dealers, where they can be assured that the commodities were checked by GNBS and met the requirements outlined in the relevant national standards.
GNBS said customers can also seek redress from it, in the event they may have purchased defective products.
