-security guard severely beaten
Two armed men, one with a gun and the other with a crow bar, invaded the Uitvlugt Secondary School on the West Coast Demerara in the early hours of Monday morning during which a security guard, Tyson Thomas, received a severe beating resulting in injuries to his head.
The other guard, Arjune Rampersaud, on duty at the time of the attack was able to sneak out of the compound of the school unhurt.
Rampersaud told this newspaper that around 02:10 hours Monday, the two armed men were spotted entering the compound and when he saw them he was able to hide for about 10 minutes and was able to sneak out unnoticed and walk quietly to his home which is just a shot distance away from the school.
On reaching his home he called 911 and the police responded promptly and found Thomas badly beaten and his head bloodied but there was no sign of forced entry into the building or any missing items, except some keys.
According to Rampersaud, the armed men apparently placed a bag over Thomas’s head and then inflicted heavy blows to his head for which he received medical treatment.
The motive for the attack is uncertain because during a check on the school later yesterday morning nothing was found missing from the school except some keys.
One suggestion is that the attack could have been connected to the possible stealing of Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination papers.
