Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Tota Mangar said the contributions were made at an opportune time when UG is strapped for cash.
He said the library, with the additions, will be able to better assist with UG’s service to its students and added that any gifts that would aid its work would be welcomed.
Balkaran said he was privileged to give back to Guyana and indicated his interest in developing a diploma programme in internal auditing as part of his pledge to UG.
Guyanese should ask themselves what they can do for their country not what their country could do for them,” he maintained.
With 25 years experience as an internal auditor and the founder of the Guyana chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), Balkaran, said his undertaking would be a two-year one which would be linked to the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) qualification offered by IIA, an international professional association of 150,000 members, with global headquarters in Altamonte Springs, Florida, United States (U.S.)

In the absence of a bachelor’s degree programme, the Diploma in Internal Auditing would be an excellent interim, receiving the support of the Global Institute of Internal Auditors,” Balkaran said.
He is spearheading the introduction of the latter and hopes it would be implemented for the new academic year in September.
However, Mangar said, while the initiative is one that would be welcome, introducing a new programme will have to be approved through a specific procedure. (Vanessa Narine)
