Guyana receives new Korean Republic Ambassador

NEW areas of cooperation are to be explored, between Guyana and the Republic of Korea, with the introduction of the new non-resident Korean Ambassador Won-Sun Choi who has vowed to strengthen the two countries’ friendship which first began in 1989.

Yesterday, Ambassador Choi presented his letters of Credence to President Bharrat Jagdeo, in the credentials room of the Office of the President, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett and other officials of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.


 

 

Yesterday, Ambassador Choi presented his letters of Credence to President Bharrat Jagdeo, in the credentials room of the Office of the President, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett and other officials of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Following the presentation, he met the Guyanese Head of State for a lengthy discussion. He disclosed to the media,that he outlined to the President, his intention to explore possibilities for cooperation in the private sectors

“I will explore the Korean private sector and the opportunities and possibilities of cooperation which Guyana has in abundance,” the Korean Republic Ambassador said.

In 2005, Guyana and the Republic of Korea signed an agreement for the promotion and protection of investments. Signing the agreement was former Minister of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation, Clement Rohee and former Korean Ambassador Shin Shoong Chull.

The agreement was aimed at setting the stage for Guyana to seek investment opportunities in the  Korean Republic.

Korean investors have been expressing interest in Guyana’s textile, furniture, paper, manufacturing and fisheries industries. (GINA)
