Walton hits century in Jamaica’s Super League

KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Wicketkeeper/batsman Chadwick Walton struck a century and led a cluster of regional players making headlines in the opening round of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Super League on Saturday.

Walton, who played the just concluded WICB first-class tournament for the Combined Campuses & Colleges, scored 136 for Kingston Tigers against Manchester Lions at Sabina Park.

He received good support from all-rounder Kerry Scott (48) and they boosted Kingston’s total to 309 all out.

Walton cracked 11 fours and four sixes in his innings.

Former West Indies Under-15 player Khrismar Santokie picked up three for 28 and was the chief wicket-taker for Manchester, who reached 23 without loss in reply at stumps.

Elsewhere in the semi-pro league, Barbadian Test player Ryan Hinds and the Jamaica national players Danza Hyatt, Donovan Pagon, and Brenton Parchment did well for their teams.

At the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium, defending champions St Catherine scored 281 all out with Damion Bryce (83) and Hyatt (45) getting most runs against Kemar Allen (4-55) and Hinds with three for 86.

Home team Trelawny were 18 for two at stumps in reply.

Pagon and leg-spinning all-rounder Damion Jacobs placed Melbourne into a strong position at Melbourne Oval.

Pagon hit 69 not out and Jacobs 42 for the home team as they reached 150 for two after Jacobs had snared seven for 70 to help restrict Westmoreland to 227.

Nickoy Samuels (53) and Maverick Perry (49 not out) led Westmoreland’s batting.

Rain stopped play early at Alpart where St Elizabeth Warriors were bowled out by Hanover Dolphins for 208 after Brenton Parchment (85) and Shawn Findlay (56) got half-centuries.

Off-spinner Ziggy Levy (6-70) and Jermaine Blackwood (3-26) were the chief wicket-takers for Hanover.
