THE Government of Guyana, through the Ministry of Regional Development and Local Government, is to undertake four community projects in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) shortly.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Sewchand (only name) said the undertakings will be in depressed communities, with the aim of reducing poverty and creating employment for the residents.
Speaking in the Anna Regina boardroom of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), he said the four will be replicated so other communities across the region can also benefit.
The places identified for the execution of the projects are Charity, Airy Hall Sands, Lima Sands and Bush Lot, all on Essequibo Coast, which are targeted for pig, poultry and sheep rearing.
Each group, of 50 families, will be given resources worth $1M to start their ventures and there must be proper accountability and record keeping, Sewchand stated.
He said spearheading the enterprises will be a regional steering committee to oversee them, headed by Regional Chairman, Mr Alli Baksh.
Sewchand said members of the groups have to be committed and dedicated to making the businesses successful and he congratulated the Regional Administration for doing the needs assessments that were required.
