McCoy’s appointment to the ROC should stay

WHY the opposition parties namely the People’s National Congress Reform, the Alliance for Change and the Guyana Human Rights Organisation are against Kwame McCoy’s appointment on the Rights of the Child Commission (ROC).

Kwame McCoy is a young, brilliant, dynamic and militant person in the PPP/C government.

Kwame McCoy has not committed anything wrong that would make him ineligible to be on the ROC. He is not a thief, a murderer, a drug pusher or a corrupt person. He is not serving in anyway in a conflict of interest.

It seems that Kwame McCoy, who is a Region Four Councillor, has been singled out by the PNCR for his militancy against the PNCR Chairman of Region Four. Kwame has been consistently up against the Chairman for his dictatorial behaviour. Moreso, Kwame has always been attacked by supporters of the PNCR because he is with the PPP/C.

Kwame McCoy being a PPP/C member and a regional councillor does not make him ineligible to be on the ROC. Many people are functioning in more than one position. They are parliamentarians, trade unionists and serving on non-governmental organisations, board directors and sports clubs.

Looking at the track records of PNCR, AFC and the GHRA they seem to give more support to criminals. They are more on the side of criminals, fighting for them vigorously despite their activities.

Kwame McCoy’s appointment to the ROC must stay.

The PNCR, the AFC and the GHRA cannot dictate who they want and who they don’t want on the ROC. Kwame is capable in serving well at the ROC.
