TAXI driver and well known promoter Colin Mack, 38, who was remanded to prison on Wednesday on a rape charge, was further remanded to prison when he made another court appearance last Friday before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle. He was charged indictably with raping a 19-year-old woman on April 12.
The lawyer for the accused Mr. Glen Hanoman had made a bail application in the High Court, which was denied because the commencement of the preliminary inquiry started on Friday. Mr. Hanoman stated that the main purpose for the bail application in the High Court was because of the lengthy period for trial. However, he added that the prosecution reassured the defence that the preliminary inquiry will begin.
In the first court appearance the virtual complainant, who was present, related that she had attended a show in the National Park with a group including the accused and later went to a popular night club with them.
She said, after a few drinks, she felt unwell and Mack offered to take her home but, instead, took her to his place where he committed the crime.
The victim said a female accomplice of the accused also performed an indecent act on her.
Mack has to be back in court on April 20 for the continuation of the preliminary inquiry.
