One of the men who received day care vouchers, Mr. Eric Williams, a father of two who is a porter, said the extra money could be used to better his life.
Another recipient, Mr. Gordland Edwards posited that the scheme would help many to meet the needs of their children.
On Wednesday in Region Six, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Ms. Priya Manickchand and other officials from the Ministry went to the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) offices at Mon Repos and Paradise in Region Four (Demerara/Mahaica) and New Amsterdam, Berbice.
In the RDC boardroom at New Amsterdam, Region Six Chairman, Mr. Zulfikar Mustapha lauded the Government for supporting poor and vulnerable Guyanese.
We are seeing a reality of a promise made by the Government,” he asserted.
Ms. Manickchand said it was another stop on the journey across the country to those in need.
The distribution which began at Anna Regina on Essequibo Coast, in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), last week Monday continued throughout the country and saw it’s most recent outreach in Soesdyke, yesterday (Friday).
Under the $8M initiative, themed ‘Single but Not Alone’, the day care vouchers are disbursed in one of its three components.

Ms. Manickchand said persons to benefit as single parents must be employed and have at least two children, with day care expense and income, inclusive of remittances and other contributing factors, not exceeding $30,000 monthly.
Other areas that were included in the distribution exercise were Regions Three (West Demerara/ Essequibo Islands), Five (Mahaica/Berbice) and Ten (Upper Demerara/Berbice).
In the last, the minister admonished those in receipt to be supportive of others in their respective communities, “so that, together, we can lift ourselves as a people, as a region and as a country.”
The eligible received their vouchers at Fruits of Calvary Church on Burnham Drive, Wismar and in the lobby of the Linden Business Centre at Mackenzie.
Ms. Manickchand explained that the 25 per cent of day care cost will provide additional income to be put towards other uses that will add up and improve the quality of lifestyles.
