MINI-BUS driver Leroy Andrew Welcome was granted $300,000 bail Wednesday when he appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan, charged with causing the death of Corwin Johnson on Tuesday, March 24 last.
It is alleged that Welcome drove BKK 9342 in a manner dangerous to the public and caused Johnson’s death.
The Prosecution, however, requested a long adjournment to complete the investigations and Defence Counsel Deborah Backer, retained by the Linden Legal Aid Centre, had applied for a reduction of the surety, on the ground that Welcome is the sole breadwinner in his family and one of his four children is about to sit an important examination.
Backer said, with his driver’s licence suspended until the end of the trial, it would be more difficult for Welcome to post such a large sum.
She said he had lodged $50,000 previously and made his Court appearance subsequently but the magistrate refused the application and said the case will continue May 13.
