FRIGATE BAY, St Kitts, (CMC) – Puerto Rico added the Boys’ Under-18 and Boys’ Under-15 titles Tuesday evening to their Girls’ U15 crown to guarantee themselves overall team honours at the Junior Caribbean Table Tennis Championships.
After copping the Girls’ U15 title early Tuesday, the Puerto Ricans outgunned Guyana in the Boys’ U15 final and topped the round-robin U18 Boys’ division to boast a 100 per cent record in team play so far at the Marriott Dome.
The Girls’ U18 crown was being decided yesterday prior to the start of play in doubles competition.
Puerto Rico carved out a 4-0 record in round-robin play to capture the Boys’ U18 division.
They shot past defending divisional champions Trinidad and Tobago and Curacao by 3-0 margins and toppled Guyana and Jamaica on 3-2 scorelines to emerge champions.
Jamaica placed second and T&T picked up third spot.
In the Boys’ U15 play-off, Puerto Rico served up an unblemished 3-0 record in the group phase to reach the semi-finals, where they shot past Jamaica 3-0.
Guyana defeated T&T 3-0 in the other semi-final but were no match for the Puerto Ricans in the championship final and went down 0-3.
