Bandit robs 60-year-old Prashad Nagar resident of car, $1.3M cash

THE police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at about 00:30h last Tuesday morning at Omai Street, Prashad Nagar, during which Winston Andrews, 60-years-old, was attacked and robbed by a man armed with a handgun.

Police said he was shot and injured to his right side during the robbery.

Investigations revealed that Winston Andrews was opening the gate to his residence, when he was confronted by the armed man who shot him and drove away with his Toyota Carina AT 192 motor vehicle, PKK 474, which reportedly had $1.3 million Guyana currency inside.

Andrews has been admitted a patient at the GPHC.

Police said three .45 rounds were recovered at the scene.

Meanwhile, the police reported that it is investigating an armed robbery that occurred at about 23:45hrs Monday night at Mandela Avenue during which taxi driver Troy Lewis of Duncan Street, C’Ville, was robbed of his motor car, HB 1461, by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

Investigations revealed that Lewis had picked up the men at Regent Street to be taken to Norton Street and was held up by the men at Mandela Avenue. The men then drove away with his car.

The vehicle was later found intact by the police in the vicinity of the Botanical Gardens, Mandela Avenue.
