New committee seeks to resuscitate Uitvlugt Cricket Club

AFTER several years of inactivity, the Uitvlugt Cricket Club (UCC) held its 3rd Statutory meeting on March 29 and elections to resuscitate the club to the once vibrant entity it was.

Hiranam Tiwari announced that the club was one of the best administered clubs in the West Demerara area but due to ill advised steps taken by members of the club resulted in the club’s deterioration.

He went on to state many members of the old administration have in their possession equipment and he sent out a strong warning for them to be returned.

He stated that failure to do such will surely warrant the intervention of the police. Also at the meeting he moved to motion for the former committee to be dissolved. It is the rationale of Tiwari that more progressive steps be taken to reform the once active organisation.

After the elections, the chairman encouraged members to continue to love and play the game in a professional manner. He hinted that with new dispensation, that players be a bit more accountable to the club and its executives especially as it relates to missing practice sessions.

The chairman also informed the meeting that the UCC has an account at Demerara Bank and the new executive will be activating it with the new signatories to the account. The new Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer will be the new signatories to the club’s account. He stated that a letter has already been prepared to effect this change.

Further, the chairman implored members to propose ways for the utilization of the funds for the best interests of the club. He recommended that part of the fund can be invested in a fixed deposit in order to earn a higher interest rate.
