THE Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) on April 2, held discussions with residents of Region Three namely La Grange, Nismes and Bagotville. The meeting which took place at the Bagotville Primary School signalled the continuation and expansion of the “Inter-Intra Community Dialogue” which commenced after the Lusignan and Bartica massacres in 2008. The discussions were aimed at facilitating interaction among residents of various communities to reduce racial animosity and boost faith in the institutions that govern the nation. During the meeting, participants echoed calls for peace, unity, harmony and cooperation in Guyana, as well as love and respect for each other. Residents also discussed the break down of moral values and the lack of employment opportunities for youths in the community. Recommendations for the implementation of national service, the need for more investments in the country and better communication between the regional administration and the community were also suggested as possible solutions to the concerns raised.
