Opportunity beckons for youths to enter the world of fashion, glamour and modelling

BUILDING self-esteem, empowering and shaping the careers through fashion and other creative arts for today’s youth is the leading force behind the Facts and Roses label and it is with this in mind that the company launched its third consecutive season of FACTS TV Programme.

The third season will have a much more intense competition and allows for more creativity with a different twist, exposing students to the thrilling and challenging industry of fashion and an experience of a lifetime.

Fashion Arts and Creativity by Talented Students – FACTS-3 Fashion House, was officially launched on March 4 at the Brickdam Secondary School.

This year, thirty candidates will be selected from the applicants and they will have to compete in three different categories, namely Student Fashion/Spokes-model, Student Fashion Designer and Student Reporter/Journalist, FACTS Public Relations Officer, David Clarke disclosed.

Clarke revealed too that the categories will see the selected students/youths interfacing with the public, particularly as it relates to the Student Reporter/Journalist category.

The recently concluded school tour targeted St Joseph’s High, St Rose’s High, Saint Stanislaus College, Brickdam Secondary and School of the Nations.

Clarke pointed out that the tour was more a sensitisation affair, encouraging students to participate and develop whatever creative talent(s) they might otherwise not get an opportunity to express.

Drafting of the thirty lucky candidates will begin April 15, after which a televised media conference will be held to reveal those chosen to the public.

As has now been the custom, and something Guyanese have come to expect, the entire show will be televised.

Each segment will have 10 finalists, each vying for the coveted title of Designer of the Year within the three segments.

Ambitious and creative youths 12 to 18 as well as recent school leavers under 18 years of age are being encouraged to submit applications, which can be downloaded on website www.factssphere.com, to fill the ten spaces available in each category.

Successful candidates will be asked to submit a complete and fully signed entry form and must meet the required standard for entry into FACTS 3- fashion house, Clarke told the Chronicle.

Winners will receive prizes that include a computer laptop, sewing machine and a digital camera.

The deadline for submission of applications is tomorrow and the lucky thirty will be notified via the FACTS Fashion house website, stated above, by mail or email by April 15.

So youths out there just ask yourself these questions before submitting that application that could launch your career in the fashion or creative arts arena: ‘Do you want to become a Fashion Designer, Fashion Model or a Fashion Reporter/Journalist? Do you have the talent to become the Best Student Designer of the Year? Do you have what it takes to be a fashion Model and become the best Fashion Model of the Year? Do you enjoy writing and reporting? Do you think you have what it takes to be a Journalist/Reporter in the world of fashion? Do you want to develop a fan base and become a TV Fashion Icon?’

Winner of last year’s competition, Sharada Elegon, of Bishop’s High School, along with models on the catwalk at FACTS 2.
