January Criminal Sessions closed at Demerara Assizes

JUSTICE Brassington Reynolds declared the January criminal sessions of the Demerara Assizes closed on Wednesday after he received the Jail Delivery from Senior Superintendent Trevor Small, Officer-in-charge of Georgetown Prison.

The witness testified that, of 92 persons awaiting trial at the penitentiary, 64 are indicted for murder, seven of them women.

Three more prisoners are to be tried for attempted murder, 18 for carnal knowledge and one each for incest, armed robbery, rape and arson.
Small told the judge that 15 of the inmates are requesting early trials.
