SHELLON De Cruz, 46, of Lot 236 Cane View Avenue, South Ruimveldt, has been charged with obtaining money by false pretence after a failed motor scooter deal. Before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday, she pleaded not guilty to receiving $178,000 from Roslyn Paul, on October 27, 2008, with intent to defraud, by falsely pretending that she was in a position to sell her the machine. De Cruz, owner of Little Eden Restaurant on Broad Street, Charlestown, also in Georgetown, pleaded not guilty but Paul said she got a receipt for the transaction. She said she kept going to the defendant’s house regularly for the other documents but to no avail. DeCruz countered that she tried to help Paul secure the documentation but did not succeed and, by the time Police found the latter riding without the relevant papers, having given different people money to help, she did not have all to repay the virtual complainant. The defendant was put on $75,000 bail until April 16.
