Police nab man with bogus currency after chase

POLICE chased and caught a man with counterfeit money after he tendered it last week.

Police Inspector Denise Griffith, prosecuting, made the disclosure yesterday when Arthur Thomas, 18, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle, charged with being in possession of the bogus currency and uttering it to Vishwanauth Doodnauth, with intent to defraud on February 17.

The defendant (no address given) pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The Prosecutor said the virtual complainant is a money changer who realised that Thomas had given him fakes.

Griffith said the defendant snatched back the notes from Doodnauth and was running away when cops nabbed him.
Thomas was refused bail and remanded to prison until March 9.
