GWI receives 1,200 jerry cans for water distribution

The Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) Monday received a donation of 1,200 jerry cans from the Guyana Red Cross Society for the distribution of safe water to inundated communities.

Secretary General of the Guyana Red Cross Society, Ms. Dorothy Fraser, presented the gift to GWI Chief Executive, Mr. Karan Singh, who is also the Head of the recently launched Flood Preparedness Committee spearheaded by the water company.

The jerry cans are very durable and allow for water to be transferred safely to affected areas identified by the Civil Defence Commission (CDC).

The committee also received 50 black tanks, courtesy of United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The Flood Preparedness Committee comprises the GWI CEO and officials from Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), Guyana Red Cross, Ministry of Health, Guyana Citizen’s Initiative, UNICEF and Oxfam.
