Seven years at NOC for pre-teen cocaine smoker

A PRE-TEEN convicted of drug trafficking, at Albion Court, Corentyne, Berbice, was yesterday committed to the New Opportunity Corps (NOC) for seven years.

The 11-year-old boy, from Rose Hall Town, at Corentyne, too, also admitted being in possession of a utensil used for smoking cocaine.

Police Inspector Satrohan Dynaram, prosecuting, said the juvenile was seen, by cops on mobile patrol, wandering in his home town last November 24.

The lad was stopped by the uniformed ranks who found he had an improvised pipe and two and a half grammes of cocaine in his underpants.

The Court was told investigations revealed that his mother died recently and his father, a 70-year-old pensioner, is unable to properly mentor his child who would often roam the streets during the wee hours.

His maternal aunt who supervises him sometimes also finds it difficult to control the school dropout, the Prosecutor said. (Jeune Bailey Van-Keric)
