GOVERNMENT’s decision to increase public servants wages plus retain the Temporary Cost of Living Adjustment (TCLA) of $4,000 is a commendable move.
I am certain that this has relieved many persons of the feeling of being pressured. Earlier in 2008 when commodity and fuel prices were skyrocketing, Government had granted a five percent across the board salary increase for public servants. In addition, those public servants who were earning below $50,000 got a $4,000 TCLA to help them offset the changes in purchasing power.
Despite the fact that prices of goods and services have drastically declined, Government has granted a five percent salary increase. I must say, that this shows commitment to improving the lives of Guyanese, especially the working class.
