THE RANKS of Assistant Commissioner of Police has now been swelled by six following the recent release by the Police Service Commission of a list of significant promotions to be made within the Guyana Police Force.
The promotions come hard on the heels of President Bharrat Jagdeo’s confirmation of Mr. Henry Greene as Commissioner of Police last Wednesday, and heading the list are the six new Assistant Commissioners, namely ‘B’ Division Commander, Mr. Balram Persaud; Crime Chief, Mr. Seelall Persaud; Head of the Immigration Department, Mr. George Vyphuis; and Messrs Steve Mirai, Nolan Hendricks and Gavin Primo of the Tactical Services Unit, all of whom previously held the post of Senior Superintendent.
Among the eleven new appointees to the post of Senior Superintendent are Traffic Chief, Mr. Neil Semple; former Public Relations Officer, Mr. David Ramnarine; and Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Head, Mr. Winston Cosbert.
Fifteen other ranks have been made Superintendents; 12 Deputy Superintendents; 27 Assistant Superintendents; 36 Inspectors; four Chief Inspectors; and seven confirmed as Assistant Superintendents.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Greene has approved the promotion of 49 Corporals to the rank of Sergeant; 84 Lance Corporals to Corporal; and 68 Constables to Lance Corporal.
Other appointments include that of nine Sergeants, 17 Corporals and eight Lance Corporals to the Special Constabulary, while 12 within the Rural Constabulary now hold posts as Sergeant and another 45 that of Corporal.
