THE Guyana National Stadium at Providence came alive yesterday afternoon when kids, accompanied by their parents, turned up in their numbers to witness the live performance of SpongeBob and Dora and their friends currently on vacation here. The cast received kudos from the kids who attended in a medium-sized crowd.
The afternoon activity commenced with a fun fair at which kids got the opportunity to experience bouncing on the trampoline, face painting and merry-go-round rides, even as others seized the opportunity to experience the new Play Station games which were there courtesy of Gizmos and Gadgets.
The show was slated to commence at 18:00 hrs, but never got off the ground until some 90 minutes later, by which time some of the children had begun to grow restless, being stressed-out awaiting the start of the show featuring their favourite television cartoon characters.
With musical entertainment of the songs featured in the cartoon show, which kept some of the kids singing and following along as they got snacks and other eatables, more patrons complained of the delayed start as the announcer repeatedly informed them that the show would start in a few minutes time.
On commencement, patrons were previewed a brief children’s fashion show, compliments of Kids Closet, one of the sponsors of the event, as the young boys and girls displayed the summer clothing line for kids.
This saw the introduction of the first of the six cartoon characters who came for a vacation in Guyana. Bob the Builder took the stage followed by Dora, then Boots and Jimmy Neutron, Patrick Star Face, and finally SpongeBob Squarepants to conclude.
The show was a vacation to Guyana after meeting two friends in St Thomas, British Virgin Islands, where they were introduced to Guyana and Suriname. The friend who told them of Guyana, “The Land of many waters”, and Suriname, “the gateway to the Amazon”, invited them to visit.
That continued with the team of friends arriving here being asked favours to assist a woman with some work as they all assisted.
The vacation continued after a short intermission, as they were told about the Demerara and Essequibo Rivers, the nesting beach and their presence to witness nesting since the season commences in February to August.
Bobb the Builder was given a small job, whereby he was assisted by friends of the cast.
The show, which saw sponsorship from the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport; Giftland OfficeMax; Church’s Chicken; Demico Ice Cream; I-Cee; Kids’ Closet; NCN and LIAT among other entities, will be repeated today at the Guyana National Stadium from 18:00 hrs.
Kids accord SpongeBob & Dora posse a rousing Guyanese welcome
