Essequibo cop dies from multiple injuries- Autopsy

AN autopsy conducted on the remains of sergeant Lakhan Persaud, aka Vinood, of Colombia Village, Region Two, revealed that he died as a result of multiple injuries he sustained from the accident. The autopsy was conducted Thursday evening by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh at the Suddie Hospital Mortuary.

Persaud, 25, unfortunately lost his life on Father’s Day around 13:35 hours on the Land of Plenty Public Road. He was attached to the Finance Headquarters Eve Leary but was visiting his father for Father’s Day.

According to information, the accident involved a motor car PRR 5764 which was borrowed from a friend by the policeman to go to Anna Regina.
He was proceeding south on the eastern lane of Land of Plenty Public Road when he lost control of the said motor car and collided with several other motor vehicles and spare parts which were showcased at the front of Balram Kawal’s Auto Sales. The vehicles were damaged during the accident.

The white car Persaud was driving.

Residents from Land of Plenty heard the loud noise and immediately rushed to the scene when they saw the car turned turtle. They immediately assisted and rushed the policeman to the Suddie Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have since collected CCTV footage of the accident from the auto sales dealer. Several persons from the community were called in by the police for questioning concerning the accident. The auto sales dealer has suffered big losses due to the accident as three new vehicles that were parked outside were reportedly damaged.

Ever since the policeman’s death, many of his friends have expressed sadness on their social media. He was described as a very helpful and friendly individual.
