GUYANA’S top ranked female badminton player, Priyanna Ramdhani, won a silver medal at the 2020 Honolulu Open A-Division tournament, which was held from Friday to Sunday in Hawaii (a USA state, comprising 137 islands, spread over 1500 miles in the Pacific Ocean).

The teenager, who is the current No.1 ranked under-19 CAREBACO International player (triple champion) departed Canada where she is on a scholarship to participate in the senior competition, although she is still a junior.

In the round robin format, the recently turned 18-year-old (January 2) got past Rachel Cheung 21-11 and 21-13, before a more competitive win against Samantha Hsu 21-15, 21-17.

In the final, she lost to the experienced Eyota Kwan, 21-13, 21-10.

Ramdhani, the 2019 Junior Sportswoman of the Year in Guyana, medalled in almost a dozen tournaments last year, including three wins in the Alberta Series and three wins in Barbados at the Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation (CAREBACO) U-19 tournament.
