Dr Karen Cummings has been sworn-in as Guyana’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Dr Cummings replaces her former National Assembly colleague Carl Greenidge. She was sworn in with several government ministers at the Ministry of the Presidency on Thursday.

Greenidge was one of four Government Members of Parliament with dual citizenship who tendered their resignations to President David Granger on Monday April 1, 2019, in keeping with the indications of High Court and Court of Appeal that it is unconstitutional for a person who swore allegiance, obedience or adherence to a foreign power or state to be a Member of Parliament.

The other officials include Former Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, Former Business Minister , Dominic Gaskin and Former Minister of Public Service , Dr Rupert Roopnaraine.

Prior to her new appointment, Dr Cummings has been serving in the APNU+AFC government as Minister within the Ministry of Public Health.
