PROMPT response by ranks of Sparendaam Police Station has resulted in the arrest of one of two motorcycle bandits who violently attacked and robbed a Plaisance resident of a gold chain valued $ 220,000.

The robbery occurred at Britain Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara Wednesday night.

Police Press Officer, Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan said inquires disclosed that the victim who resides at Victoria Road, Plaisance, was on the road conversing with a relative when the suspects approached on a motorcycle.

The pillion rider brandishing a handgun, dismounted and gun-butted the victim to his head, relieved him of his jewellery and quickly rejoined his accomplice, fleeing the scene.

Ramlakhan said the matter was reported and one of the suspects was arrested shortly after in Plaisance.

“Though he was positively identified by the victim who is a police constable stationed at an interior location, he has denied the allegation. The stolen property has not been recovered or the firearm allegedly used, found. The accomplice and the motorcycle are being sought as investigations continue,” the police press officer said.

Also on Wednesday night, around 20:15 hrs, police acting on information received, arrested a 23-year-old, unemployed male of Soesdyke, Linden Highway.

An unlicensed Taurus pistol with four live rounds was found in a house at Self Help Square, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown in which the suspect was hiding.
