THE GEORGETOWN Stabroek Lions Club on Mother’s Day brought smiles to the faces of some 80 female inmates of the Palms Institution, Brickdam.
True to the “We Serve” motto, the initiative was spearheaded by incoming president for the 2017/2018 Fiscal Year, June Leitch, along with Roxanne Luckie. A release from the Lions Club noted that the female residents were served a sumptuous meal of scrambled eggs, bread and juice.
“The timely initiative which was preceded by a donation of adult pampers and body talc the previous day, was all part of a community project aimed at spreading joy to the less fortunate in the community within which the club served on such significant occasions,” the release noted.
It was further noted that while the focus of the occasion was on the female residents, the offering was more than enough,as such, the 28 male residents, who are housed on the lower flat, were also able to partake in the breakfast.
“The gratitude displayed through the smiles on the faces of the recipients and the lively interaction by some of the more able-bodied ones have served as an impetus to further propel the membership of the club to continue the “We Serve” motto,”according a release from the Lions Club.
