Roshan Khan nominated as Muslim Rep on ERC

THE Guyana United Sad’r Islamic Anjuman (GUSIA), on behalf of the wider Guyanese Muslim community, has announced that prominent Muslim leader and businessman Hajji Roshan Khan has been nominated as the Representative of the Muslim community to the constitutional body, the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC).According to Secretary of the GUSIA, Hakeem Khan, through a democratic process, Hajji Khan was duly selected from a list of three candidates nominated by the Muslim organizations specifically approved by the National Assembly on July 10, 2014.

His nomination was agreed on at a specially convened meeting of the said approved organizations, convened by the Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG) at the CIOG Headquarters.

Khan explained that Hajji Khan is a dynamic Muslim personality, known far and wide for his openness and his embrace of people of all religious and ethnic backgrounds.

“He is a very successful businessman, and (is) known to support the work of all major religious groups. He has openly cooperated and worked with all the Muslim organizations in this country over the years, and has earned respect from them as a charismatic individual of great values,” the secretary explained.

In accepting the nomination, Hajji Khan thanked the Muslim organizations for their confidence in him, and promised to diligently pursue achievement of the goals of the ERC for the betterment of all Guyanese.

He promised to meet continuously with the Muslim leadership in Guyana to brief them and to listen to them during his stint on the ERC.

The GUSIA and its affiliate, Anna Catherina Islamic Complex AA (ACIC), on behalf of the wider Muslim community, expressed its support to Hajji Khan in his being selected to represent the Muslim community on the ERC, and urged him to pursue ideas which would be beneficial to the betterment of all Guyanese.
