MANAGING Director of BK International Inc., Mr. Brian Tiwarie, last Friday rewarded two of his employees for being so vigilant that they were able to save the company millions of dollars worth of fuel, which was being carted off through theft from vehicles.

Speaking to the media yesterday before handing over the $250,000 each and champagne to the beneficiaries, General Manager, Mr. Egan Bazillio said the loss is felt by the firm weekly.
The alleged culprits, a truck driver and a front-end loader operator were caught red-handed on camera as they took the fuel out of a BK 10-wheeler vehicle which was doing duty at the company’s sand pit on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
The men were confronted about their action and handed over to the police, before appearing in the Providence Magistrate’s Court, East Bank Demerara, yesterday morning.
Bazillio said the fuel lost recently has been of tremendous concern to the company and what is bothersome is that, when similar acts are uncovered and taken to the court, those charged with the offences are slapped with minimal fines which fail to act as a deterrent.
He said what the company did Friday would pave the way for other employees to be more open and alert with respect to their surroundings and safeguarding of the company’s resources.
He said BK International expressed willingness to reward members of the public who may be aware of any such thefts by employees in any part of the country where it is working.
The police, at the Timehri station, also on East Bank of Demerara, were commended by the company, too, for their timely response after being informed of the development.
