Restrictions on vaping imports a welcome step towards protecting Guyana’s children

– Afro-Guyanese Heritage Association says

THE Afro-Guyanese Heritage Association on Thursday said it welcomes President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s recent announcement of restrictions on the importation of vapes and vaping products into Guyana.

“Children’s health deserves decisive protection. The concerns outlined by the President about
young people’s exposure to nicotine and potentially harmful substances warrant serious
attention from every organisation concerned with their welfare,” the organisation said in a press release.

It added that the proposed import restrictions offer an opportunity to strengthen protection while
encouraging informed conversations in homes, schools, and communities.

Further, it noted that parents and teachers should receive clear information to help them explain the concerns surrounding vaping and respond when young people need guidance.

“The Afro-Guyanese Heritage Association commends the President for making children’s
well-being a priority. We encourage prompt implementation of the announced measures,
supported by sustained public education and accessible assistance for young people seeking to
stop using these products,” the release added.
