–engages VP Jagdeo on contributing to nation’s progress
ANOTHER key People’s National Congress-Reform (PNC-R) figure in Georgetown, Wayne Maison, on Friday, publicly signaled support for the governing People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), announcing that he had met with Vice President and PPP General Secretary Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo.
“Today, I, Wayne Maison, met with Vice President and General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo,” Maison said in a statement.
He added: “During the engagement, we spoke about working with the Party and Government and contributing meaningfully to the continued development of Georgetown and our country.”
Maison’s statement lands just a day after several other former and current opposition-aligned figures made a comparable move.
On Wednesday, former APNU Member of Parliament Deonarine “Ricky” Ramsaroop, together with a group of young Guyanese with backgrounds in the opposition, met with Jagdeo and voiced support for the PPP/C’s development agenda.
That group included sitting APNU/NDC Councillor Trevon Chichester, former PNC members Ewart Nacimento and Damion Dummett, and former AFC members Nicketa Ward, Abigail Rodney and Damion James.
Earlier this year, Ramsaroop was also among a group, which also included former MPs Shurwayne Holder and Dinesh Jaiprashad, and sitting regional councillors Ravoldo Birbal, Sheik Yaseen, Prince Holder and Gangadai Lloyd, that met with Jagdeo and pledged to work with the government instead.
The list of departures from the PNC and its APNU coalition has lengthened steadily since 2022, when longstanding member Ronald Backer and party treasurer Fiaaz Mursaline resigned.
Former Georgetown Mayor Patricia Chase-Green and City Councillor Trichria Richards followed in 2023, both later becoming PPP/C members.
Notably, former MPs Shurwayne Holder and Jermaine Figueira; former Region Four Chairman, Daniel Seeram and Vice Chairman, Samuel Sandy, as well as the son-in-law of PNC’s founder, former President Forbes Burnham, Dr. Richard Van-West Charles; Thandi McAllister; James Bond and Geeta Chandan-Edmond have all also embraced the PPP/C’s development agenda and serve in different capacities.
Jagdeo has repeatedly described the crossovers as validation of the PPP/C’s governance record. Presenting elements of the party’s 2025–2030 development manifesto, he argued the PPP/C was the only party with a proven record of macroeconomic management, telling reporters, “What separates us from the others is vision.”
He has also said that the PPP/Cis a “party of inclusion” welcoming persons from across the political spectrum.
