GUYANESE women involved in the local aviation industry feel that all mechanisms are in place including the human resources for Guyana to see the rebirth of its own airline. The women in aviation, many of whom are pilots, made a pitch to the Government of Guyana to see the achievements of the women in aviation and understand that they are fully equipped with the knowledge and experience and are competent.
They said that with the experience and other resources of the women in aviation in Guyana, the only thing missing is a plane owned and operated by Guyana and suggested the return of Guyana Airways.
It was pointed out that should there be a return of the Guyana Airways there will not be the need for Guyanese flying out in numbers seeking employment abroad on other carriers since they will be flying their own.
“The only thing missing is the Guyana Airways, bring back the Guyana Airways so we don’t have to go begging for work all over the place” one female in the aviation industry asserted on Wednesday.
Transport Minister Robeson Benn declared that the women of the world today are the owners of the 21st Century and that it was his hope that their work will be remembered for eternity.
The minister was at the time addressing a gathering mostly of persons in the aviation sector on Wednesday which saw the unveiling of commemorative stamps in honour of two distinguished women in aviation, Cheryl Moore and Beverly Drake.
Benn mentioned that the women of today, especially those locally, have contributed to the development of the infrastructure and the mining industry.
He offered that it is very critical and important for all persons to collectively think on the issue of women’s involvement in the economy and while seriously considering the attitudes of men and how they should behave towards women.
Benn feels that humans in general and men will not be accomplished and fully liberated like the rest of the world unless women are allowed to play their roles in society. He said that the women of the world needs to be mentored and as such space should be given to them intelligently.
He added that the presence of the women who were honoured for their contributions in aviation, many of whom served in their capacity, as the first woman fulfilled the statement of many years ago that women can do anything that a man can do.
According to the minister, no more should men feel threatened by the presence of women and their presence in aviation should be a sign of the beginning of things while congratulating the women for leading a life that is an example to all Guyanese, especially men.
