Dear Editor,
FIVE days to go and the Guyanese electorate will thrive to reinstate by reelecting the incumbent PPP/C to governance for a second term under President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s leadership.
Five political challengers will try to outsmart, out class and oust the deep-seeded and seated PPP/C from regaining the majority seats in Parliament to run the Government.
It is an uphill task saturated with keen competition, running at breath-taking speed and overwhelmed with far-reaching promises, questionable policies and shady personalities.
Up until Monday, it has been a fairly comfortable and mildly troubled environment in the country. Unfortunately, the peaceful atmosphere has been contaminated with the infectious domestic violence and road carnages from Tuesday’s mishaps.
The entire country mourns the unhappy state of affairs and the loss of the lives of the loved ones. Violence has been the silent destroyer preached and practiced by many of the politicians opposing peace, progress and prosperity. Accidents, injuries, loss of lives and properties due to incidents on the road, also contribute to a violent society.
The ever-compassionate President Ali had to take time off to address this mournful misfortune at a time when violence is being encouraged, endured and empowered by some of our evil-minded advocates who are also vying to rule this country.
How devastatingly disturbing and unacceptably uncomforting it is to know that during this sensitive period, some learned ladies and gentlemen who are also addressed as “Honorable” when in Parliament, succumb to the toxic disease of teaching, preaching and practicing hate, racism, dishonesty, segregation and violence.
President Irfaan Ali said that he was “deeply disturbed and saddened” by the Rambachan-Solomon murder/suicide event. He further stated that “When we stay silent in the pain of others and do nothing in the pain of others, we never could tell where that pain would lead.”
In a country already amplified with too much violence of varied nature, a fragmented domestic society and communities poisoned with political and irascible innuendos, why is the Opposition and newcomers adding to this dilemma with their reckless and irresponsible remarks, opinions and comments?
President Ali declared that hate and discrimination have no place in any part of Guyana. The PPP/C is the only Party which can stake a complete and unreserved claim that they are the sole provider, protector and participator for peace in Guyana and to forge a secured future whereby all Guyanese should unite for a “One Guyana.”
The PPP, members, supporters and sympathisers have always been on the receiving end of violent attacks since the 60’s and that has not changed.
PNCR top brass went to West Berbice and insinuated violence after the Henry Brothers fiasco shortly after the PPP/C went into power in 2020.
From then on, it has been a consistent and perpetual barrage of violent incitement orchestrated by APNU, AFC and now WIN influences as advocates ready to pursue a road smeared with physical altercations if they do not get their way.
Perhaps the “Mad Maduro” blood runs in their veins to eat, drink and think violence is the answer for any confrontation and to be a bully!
Little Boy Blue, the spoiled billionaire brat, braggart and boaster, threatened that, “his party will win the elections, that they will win Region Seven, they will win Region Eight, or they have already won Region Seven, they have already won Region Eight, and they will win Region Six. And if the results are apparently different, they will not accept it”.
Leader of the Opposition, Aubrey Norton was quoted, intimidating that, “If you lose these elections, you must go… any attempt to steal these elections will meet with trouble,”
Meanwhile, the Attorney General, Mr. Anil Nandlall reacted pointedly and passionately that “They are irresponsible, they are inflammatory, and there is no basis for those statements to have been made in the first place.”
Quite pertinently, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Clifton Hicken, warned all and sundry, “Let it be clearly understood that any attempt to create disorder, intimidate others or break the law will be dealt with swiftly and decisively.”
Forewarned is to be forearmed. Guyana and Guyanese will not tolerate any intimidation, intimation or insinuation to create civil disorder in this country ever again, especially before, during and after election. Any attempt to cause chaos or confusion will be dealt with condignly. All the military forces have undergone special training for any election upheaval and they have assured the public that they will react appropriately in the case of any eventuality.
Yours respectively,
Jai Lall.
