The organisers (the Linden Amateur Basketball Association), are hoping to put an end to this prolonged championship now that the summer break has caught up with the final and the fan base of school players remained in tact for the final showdown.
This final should be keenly contested based on the fact that it was no pushover when these two teams clashed in the round-robin segment of this tournament but the Multi boys are the favourites to be the new champions as they possess the cream of the Linden players, led by their leading scorer guard Terron Welch, power forward Travin ‘Babylon’ Dryden, just back from grabbing the top individual prizes at the National Basketball festival, and high-rising centre/forward Edmar Semple.
Welch has the top individual score in this tournament – 48 points – and has accumulated the most points having 137 points, excluding the game against Wisburg, going into the final, while his teammate Dryden has 92 points in this year’s tournament and remains a scoring threat along with Edmar Semple.
They will be the players to watch against a Wisburg side who are making history by reaching the final for the first time in the tournament’s nine-year history.
In fact, they have never reached the final four and in taking on the Christianburg/Wismar Secondary in this final, they would have achieved beyond expectations.
Their high-scoring players include guard Tahquille Johnson who has been their leading scorer with 83 points and Aubrey Campbell with 73 in this six-team championship.
The Multi side lost in the final last year to Linden Technical Institute whom they pummelled 102-32 and also recorded huge wins against their other opponents to enter as impressive favourites for today’s clash.
