THE Berbice Bridge Company Inc. (BBCI), on July 23 handed over a cheque for $200,000 to the Carib Feedback Productions for sponsorship for its theatrical stage production titled “Berbice Uprising & Poems for Cuffy’s Children” was presented last Saturday at the Berbice High School Auditorium.
The BBCI received a letter dated June 18 from the Writer/Director/Producer of the Carib Feedback Productions requesting sponsorship for the stage production. Its main objective is to tell the story of rebellion and freedom by fusing drama, poetry, music and dance.
The $200,000 provided by the BBCI would be used to cover rental for the venue used to host the one-month workshop and rehearsals, marketing/promotion and ticket expenses.
According to a press release, the Company was privileged to have the opportunity to make a donation towards this particular stage production which would create educational entertainment for youths by reflecting on the contributions of Berbicians to the history and culture of the Guyanese population.
“The BBCI not only plays the role of collecting tolls and facilitating vehicles crossing the Berbice River Bridge and vessels transiting through the Retractor opening and under the High Span, but also discharges its corporate responsibilities and more importantly play an integral part in the development of education, sports, supported national events and make donations to charitable and non–charitable organizations in close proximity of the Bridge or in Regions 5 and 6,” the release stated..
In the past the company has sponsored many events that benefited the communities both on the eastern and western sides of the bridge.
The release noted that for the year 2013, the Company has so far received 51 Public Relation requests and managed to approve 47 of these requests comprising of sponsorships of Mashramani 2013 events, sponsorship of horse racing events, donations of trophies to various non–profit and educational institutions, facilitations of tours of various schools and waivers of toll charges for tour buses, among others.
