THE British High Commission in Georgetown and the University of Guyana are collaborating to host a lecture series to address climate change related issues and the challenges and opportunities they bring to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) region.
The series will take a look at the not-so-often talked about aspects of climate change:
* Challenges to governance;
* Challenges to security;
* Challenges and opportunities for human and social development;
* The challenges and opportunities for small economies.
Lecturers will be drawn from the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC), the Guyana Defence Force and the University of the West Indies.
The aim of the series is to raise issues that need further debate, discussion and research in a way that is constructive, further developing a platform for the academic community to make their input into regional and national discussions.
It is hoped the lecture series build up networks linking regional academic, scientific and government experts.
Dr Ulric Trotz of the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre will present the first lecture addressing Challenges to Governance on 1 December. The lecture will take place at Regency Suites Hotel.
In conjunction with the lectures there will be televised panel discussions exploring the same themes to be broadcast on NCN.
Climate Change is a multi-faceted challenge to the region and will impact the full range of issues at both the personal and Governmental levels. Climate Change will also bring important opportunities. The British High Commission said it is pleased to be associated with this lecture series and to contribute to these broader discussions.
