VRYMAN’S Erven Secondary School showed no mercy for an under-prepared Manchester Secondary outfit and sent the Corentyne lads crashing out of the Digicel/PowerAde nationwide Schools Football Tournament, with a massive 13-1 mauling at the Scott’s School Ground in New Amsterdam, yesterday. Played in front of a sizeable crowd, the home team got busy as soon as the first whistle blew, to condemn their lightly regarded opponents in the second game of the Region 6 leg of the competition.
Leading the way for Vryman’s Erven was Steven Boucher who got past the Manchester goalie six times, Akeem Haynes and Kevin Liddel joined the goal spree by netting twice; Ryan Hinds, Boris Griffith and O.J. Green then topped off a fine evening by scoring one goal each. Garfield Browne netted the lone goal for the losers.
In the first game on Monday, Tagore Memorial and J.C. Chandisingh School were involved in a roller-coaster encounter at Skeldon, before Tagore took the game 5-3.
The competition continues today at the Skeldon ground, with Skeldon High taking on Corentyne Comprehensive while tomorrow the action returns to New Amsterdam with Berbice High clashing with Skeldon Line Path. (Michael Khan)
