Pull Quote: ‘We are asking all Guyanese to join with us in this amazing cause. All you have to do is have a Champion Chowmein for lunch or Indi Curry for dinner…and you will be helping to build a home for those who are less fortunate’ – Anand Beharry
HABITAT for Humanity (Guyana) and Edward B Beharry & Company Ltd yesterday announced that they are collaborating to launch a new project called ‘Beharry Build’ which will seek to raise funds to build homes for Guyanese who otherwise cannot afford to even imagine owning their own homes. Anand Beharry, Chairman of Edward B Beharry and Company Ltd said that he was thrilled to announce that the company will be collaborating with the non-profitable organisation to build homes for Guyanese who cannot afford to build one.
He said that they are scheduling themselves to partner with Habitat for Humanity (Guyana) for the next 12 months so that they can raise sufficient finance to construct homes for “families who do not have the financial capacity to do so on their own.”
$14 MILLION PLUS
He estimated that the value of the partnership would be in excess of $14 million.
He contended that cooperation from the Guyanese society will not only build homes but will build something more valuable – “a future.”
“We would not only be providing four walls and a roof; we would be giving families a future. A child would have a safe environment to grow and learn and become a productive member of our country; a mother or father would have a space to relax after a hard day at work; a family would have a home to pass on to generations to come,” he stated, asking the public to participate in this new venture.

Edward B Beharry & Company Ltd has a long history of giving back to the Guyanese society with their countrywide feeding programmes, medical outreaches and education drives.
Rawle Small, National Director of Habitat for Humanity (Guyana), said that the partner will boost their goal for providing development in Guyanese families ‘one house at a time’.
According to him the ‘Beharry Build’ project is the catalyst which will shatter the cycle of poverty and enhance living standards for families nationwide. He added that the project is the largest one that they have ever undertaken in Guyana since Habitat for Humanity (Guyana) opened its doors in the country.
BUYING LOCAL
“I feel strongly that this project is an opportunity for Guyanese from all walks of life to derive great benefit from buying local. Buy[the] Beharry Champion, Chico, and Indi line of products and help build a better Guyana while doing so!” he declared in his opening remarks, stating that Guyanese will be helping to build 10-15 homes for families who otherwise cannot afford to build a house “…but who are deserving and for whom a home of their own would literally transform the life of a child…a family.”
Small added that national support will cause each family to benefit from financial literacy training and a maintenance plan for their new home.
“Each family has a story and every story has a beginning, a mid-point and an ending. We want the stories of each family’s support by Habitat for Humanity (Guyana) and Edward B Beharry & Company Ltd and Guyanese consumers to have a happy ending. They must be pleased to know that two organisations and their country folks delivered a life-changing moment and were there for them when it mattered the most. So come on Guyana, let’s build it; let’s build better homes, let’s build better families, let’s build stronger communities. Let’s do all of this by supporting ‘Beharry Build’,” Small urged.
