NASSAU, Bahamas (CMC) – Guyana has pulled out of the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship 24 hours before the scheduled kick-off time at the Malcolm Park Beach Soccer and Futsal Facility in Nassau, Bahamas, organisers announced yesterday.
Officials from CONCACAF and Beach Soccer Worldwide, the event’s organiser, say every effort was made to facilitate Guyana’s participation.
However a statement from CONCACAF cited “administrative complications” as the reason preventing Guyana from taking part.
The tournament, which also serves as the region’s qualifier for the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, has been reduced to a field of 10 teams involving two groups of three teams and one group of four teams.
Due to Guyana’s withdrawal, Group B, like Group C, will now be comprised of three teams, Mexico, Canada and Trinidad & Tobago.
The competition was due to begin yesterday with an encounter between the United States and Guatemala, followed by three other games.
The champion and runner-up from the CONCACAF event will qualify for the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, to be played in Tahiti, September 18-28.
