Ms Parle spoke of the pride and honour she felt aligning with the magazine. She spoke of her relationships with the founders of the magazine, particularly Mr Young, whose first stay on the island was at Bay Gardens back in 1995. She commended the team for its networking prowess, and endorsed her continued support of the publication.
Daria Ernst Robinson spoke glowingly of JQ Mall’s collaboration with Richard Young over the last two and one-half years, and confirmed the Mall’s commitment to projects with which he is involved. She celebrated the Mall’s involvement with the magazine, and said that, last year, Sonia Noel served as guest judge on the Mall selection panel for its model casting. She reiterated that the company is delighted to partner with the ‘Makin Style’ brand.
Sonia Noel revelled in the moment of glory, declaring this her second launch of the Makin Style magazine since copies first appeared on shelves in Georgetown, Guyana. She basked in the rays of positive reviews showered on the magazine thus far, and revealed that it has always been her passion to publish a magazine and spread the word of Caribbean style. She was excited about the proposed launch days around the Caribbean, declaring there is to be a hallmark launch during Caribbean Week in New York.
She spoke of the painstaking work involved in compiling the features in the magazine, and attributed the end product to teamwork. Teaming up with Richard Young, she said, has been a beautiful collaboration that resulted in the launch of this premier issue. She boasted that their partnership was special, since they both bring individual strengths and advantages to the publication.
Richard Young’s passion for Caribbean identity precedes him. He is very driven by the philosophy of branding the Caribbean aesthetic. He spoke assuredly and knowingly about the style of living in the region; how we confront, create and communicate as a method of modern-day survival, which has become unapologetically and unabashedly Caribbean.
This is what we will document through a compelling storytelling medium in the magazine, he promised. Through incisive contributions by investigative writers utilizing invigorative approaches, we will celebrate Caribbean style, he said.
Several television stations and print media were present to commemorate the launch. The press conference was quite interactive, with questions being fielded proactively by the head table. In attendance were Esther St Claire-Moonie, Business Development Coordinator at JQ Group; Cheryl Gustave, Executive Assistant Manager at JQ; Kristen Adamson and Kadius St Louis of Marketing; and Lovelle Du Boulay of Events at Bay Gardens Beach Resort. Missing was Dahlia Francois of Options Designs, who had been a partner in hosting the launch.
