St. Cuthbert’s residents benefit from Health Ministry’s outreach

MORE than 150 persons, including children and senior citizens, benefited from a Health Ministry’s outreach that was held at the St. Cuthbert’s Mission Health Centre on Friday last. Visual Inspection using Acetic Acid (VIA) screening for cervical cancer, eye testing and dental care were among the services provided by the team of health professionals which consisted of a dentist, dentex, dental assistants, refractionist and VIA providers from Georgetown. The team delivered exceptional care and treatment to the persons present at the outreach.
Approximately 102 persons benefited from dental services such as prophylaxis treatment, extractions and filling. The dental team, headed by Dr. Collin Lee, comprised staff of the Cheddi Jagan Dental Centre.
Thirty persons including two children had their eyes tested, 19 of whom require prescription glasses.
Meanwhile, 22 women benefited from VIA testing, five of whom showed signs of pre- cancerous lesions and were provided with immediate treatment.
A similar outreach was held at the Love and Faith Church in Sophia last week where approximately over 200 persons benefited from similar care and treatment. That outreach successfully provided 67 persons with dental care, 68 had their eyes screened, over 50 HIV tests were conducted, and 28 women were screened through the VIA method for cervical cancer .
Residents expressed gratitude and praised the health professionals for the high quality of care and treatment delivered to them. (GINA)
