PURAN Brothers Disposal Service has fixed several problems at the Lima dump site on the Essequibo Coast, in accord with specifications in the contract it signed with the Government.
Chairman of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Parmanand Persaud, who had threatened to close the site facility if the contractor did not move, within a week, to rectify the careless dumping of garbage, said he is pleased now that the company has started to dig pits, compact and bury the garbage neatly.
He visited the location on Tuesday and said an excavator machine was taken there and started digging where the waste was compacted and buried.
Persaud said the Regional Administration had to act swiftly to get the situation corrected after several residents complained about the reckless operation and the thousands of flies invading their homes.
He said the company acted quickly and has buried almost all that was scattered and is moving deeper into the backdam to do more excavation.
Persaud advised that the disposal site is operated by Puran Brothers and persons wishing to dispose garbage will have to pay a tipping fee at its Anna Regina office before doing so.
The government and the Region 2 Administration inked the deal with Puran Brothers for the collection, transportation and disposal of solid waste from households along the Essequibo Coast.
The company is providing barrels free of cost to residents who will have to pay $360 each to dispose one barrel of waste. It said it is committed to work hand in hand with the government and other stakeholders to maintain clean surroundings and continuously strive to keep the environment safe for tomorrow’s generation.
