PRIME Minster Samuel Hinds says that the Government of Guyana is conscious of the employment opportunities being created through the establishment of new and modernized businesses throughout the country.Prime Minster Hinds was at the time addressing the sod turning ceremony at the new Neal and Massy’s distribution centre at Montrose, East Coast Demerara, last Wednesday. The Prime Minister declared that the government welcomes the sod turning which heralds the beginning of the construction of the new facility to meet the growing demands of consumers, while creating job opportunities for many.
He further stated that the government commends the group for its growth and development over a number of decades, which has been lending to the continued development of the country at large.
He added, “We are conscious of the employment opportunities created and more so the goods and services which Neal and Massay provide to the Guyanese public.”
Meanwhile, he noted that Guyana has been growing and developing over the last few years but there is still a lot more to be done. Hinds pointed out that there is need for continued growth, but citizens have to become more productive, both individually and collectively.
And he declared that one of the things being aimed at is an increase in productivity, and the importance for increased productivity in a growing and developing nation.
He said that greater productivity comes from the raising of levels of education and skills training, as well as the health of the country’s people, noting that investments in the human factor are the major focus of the budgets.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of Neil and Massy, Mr. Deo Persaud said the new facility will allow the company to realize its vision as a distribution company, importing essential products needed by local consumers.
Persaud said, “The company will be breaking it down into smaller packages so that we can be able to turn around very quickly…at the times and quantities they (consumers) need.”
He noted that it may seem like a simple process, but careful planning and hard work is needed in order to accomplish such a well-established distribution company.
“We will also be better equipped to service the needs of the Guyanese consumers,” Persaud concluded.
