A double dose of Mash in the Ancient County

BERBICIANS experienced a double dose of the Mashramani fever, when the Regional Administration hosted the second leg  of the ‘celebration after a hard work’, that attracted the participation of  government ministries, and private entities to the township of New Amsterdam, on Sunday.

altIt was the  East Coast-based Victoria masquerade dancers, one of whom was on stilts, that drew the participation of the crowd, which  had lined the  roadway to catch a glimpse of the revellers and floats.
Dressed in colourful costumes, with masks and stuffed breasts and buttocks, dancers flounced, the Mad Cow sending children scampering away in feigned terror.
In addition there were revellers , some of whom were scantily dressed. They represented  Region 6, the Ministry of Culture ,Youth and Sport , the Ministry of Education, Tucber Park Youth Club, Guyana Public Service Union, Banks DIH, and La Chateau Van FagoKetur Hotel.alt
As is customary with the event , the sounds of soca music blared from the several music sets accompanying the revellers , as they made there way along the almost two-mile trek from Tacama Turn to the lawns of the New Amsterdam State house .
The  street lime continued into the wee hours of the morning, as many took the opportunity to ‘catch up’ with their friends and associates..  The police  were seen  working  beyond the call of duty, as scores of uniformed and plainclothes men were seen intermingling , arresting when necessary and directing the flow of traffic .
Held under the theme: ‘Reflecting Creativity, Embracing Diversity’ , the annual event moved to the Ancient County a week after the major celebrations   in the  capital city.
Last week, the New Amsterdam Mash committee pulled off the local leg of the celebration by hosting  several activities, including the float and costume parade .
