St. Ignatius Secondary back to normalcy

CHIEF Education Officer Mr. Olato Sam yesterday indicated in an exclusive interview with this newspaper that school business and classes has returned to normalcy at the St. Ignatius Secondary School after a team of officials, including himself, had visited the area over the weekend. Sam told this newspaper that the headteacher had tendered her resignation last Friday after a three-week spat at the school between a subject teacher, the HOD and the HM resulted in students being influenced to picket in front of the school.
He noted that after meeting with education officials, the headteacher withdrew her resignation after the teacher in question was removed from the school and seconded to the Regional Education Unit.

The matter is still under investigation by the Ministry of Education, but will follow a process before future action is administered; and until then, the findings would not be disclosed.

Demerara Waves online news on Friday morning highlighted the incident at the Region 9 secondary school, where some 400 students where picketing during the morning period.

Information received is that the subject teacher had refused to meet the stipulated requirements of teachers. Her supervisor had reported the matter on a numbers of occasions, and the headteacher had then taken a certain course of action.

The subject teacher thereafter commenced a certain course of action which was directed against the headteacher’s decision. She even influenced the students against her departmental head and the school’s head.
