FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD Paramdev Nanan, also called Kishun, the survivor in Sunday’s river tragedy which claimed the life of 14-year-old Kevin Ram at Splashmin’s Fun Park, Madewini, on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, remains warded at the Georgetown Public Hospital and is in a stable condition.
Nanan had a narrow escape and his friend, Kevin Ram perished, when the two, on an outing with their families at the park, ventured into the Madewini Creek and went down. Neither of the boys could swim, Paramdev’s father said, but after it was discovered that they were in distress, public-spirited persons plunged into the water and managed to pull them out. CPR was performed on them and they were rushed to the Diamond Regional Hospital. Paramdev responded to treatment, but Ram was pronounced dead at the institution. The survivor was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The boys were at the fun park for a fun day organised by their parents’ employers, Trinidad Cement Ltd (TCL).
Shortly after 15:00hrs, their parents took a boat ride to the Eco-Resort on the other side of the Fun Park and left them under a benab to oversee their bags and lunch baskets. They were warned not to leave the benab in their parents’ absence. However, the boys disobeyed and ventured into the water where Ram lost his life.
A post mortem is to be performed tomorrow.
