THE police yesterday revisited the Strathavon, Cane Grove area, and invited several persons to the nearby police station for questioning in the death of 32-year-old Ganesh Rattan. Rattan was pushed to his death from the Strathavon pavilion on Sunday afternoon where he and another friend were sitting at the time.
This publication, visiting the scene yesterday, was told that Ganesh and the other man decided to walk to the pavilion and relax, when an argument broke out between the two and another man called ‘Little’.
The Chronicle was told that the argument started after a game of pools the men were playing at a shop nearby.
Ganesh, 32, a father of four and his friend were later approached by Little, who lashed Ganesh’s friend to the face with a piece of wood, and then pushed Ganesh off the pavilion.
A sister of the dead man explained that she was at home, just a few metres from the pavilion, when someone called at her gate informing her that her brother was pushed from the pavilion.
She rushed to the scene and saw her brother’s lifeless body on the ground.
It is reported that Rattan and his wife separated after the relationship they shared was plagued by violence.
A family friend told the Chronicle that after the separation, Rattan then moved from the No. 10 Creek home he shared with his wife, to Cane Grove. She said that he then began doing odd jobs around the area and had no fixed place of abode. She added too, that the man apparently was affected by the fact that he was no longer together with his wife and children, and he took to drinks.
The family is contending that the man who pushed their loved one to his death lives only a few blocks from where the incident occurred.
When the Chronicle visited Rattan’s family yesterday, they were still trying to come to grips with the reality of losing him in what they described as a senseless manner.
The assailant is said to be in police custody and the police are continuing their investigations into the matter.
